Summer School 2026: Sustainability, Temporalities and Futures

4 May – 22 June 2026
Online & at the University of Turku, Finland

Summer School and Futures Conference 2026 address the critical theme of the sustainability transformation – a fundamental shift that will renew societal and economic systems and practices while enhancing human agency, well-being, and quality of life. Both highlight the importance of temporality, asking what intergenerational decision-making within planetary boundaries means in practice.

Summer School structure:

1. Online lectures and exercises, Tuesdays at 15:00–18:00 (EET, UTC/GMT+2)

  • 12 May: Professor İdil Gaziulusoy: “Creative, critical and speculative methods in futuring”
  • 19 May: Senior University Lecturer Katriina Siivonen: “Cultural sustainability transformation”
  • 26 May: Professor Petri Tapio: “Futures research and sustainability”
  • 2 June: Associate Professor Geci Karuri-Sebina: ”Intersections between people, place, time and technological change”

2. Onsite participation in the international Futures Conference 2026: “Sustainability, Temporalities and Futures” on 9–10 June at the University of Turku, Finland.

Course requirements for Master’s students (5 ECTS):

  • Preliminary readings and preparation for the online lectures
  • Active participation during the online lectures and exercises
  • Participation in the conference
  • Academic learning diary

Registration and course fee:

Summer School fee is 30€. The fee is due within the registration. Register by 28 April at latest. Note that the seats are limited to 50 students. Link to the registration form
