Post-graduate online course: FUTUJ1 Approaches to Scientific Futures Research (4 ECTS)

Students in the futures studies post-graduate programme learn about futures studies schools of thought and how to position their own research in the context of futures studies knowledge creation. Students from other doctoral programmes and sciences learn to know about scientific futures research and see their own research issue in the context of futures studies. Throughout the course students reflect their own scientific field and earlier studies in the context of futures research.

All meetings of this course are online. There will be two meetings (on three days) during the course. The first is lecture session on Friday September 20th and the second is research seminar on Thursday and Friday, October 10th and 11thAll students are expected to take part on every meeting.

Number of participants 30. FFA 10 students, FFRC 10 students and UTUGS 10 students. Students will be selected based on the required additional information given as part of the enrollment.

On this 4 ECTS course you are expected to

  • familiarize yourself with the materials in Moodle ahead of lectures on September 20th (Idea is not that you will study all the material, but a selection of few articles, videos and podcasts that seem relevant from the perspective of your thesis)
  • based on the materials and your own interest, prepare some questions for the lecture session
  • make a written document of max 6 pages (including list of references), where you reflect on issues related to scientific futures studies in the context of your doctoral studies (submission dl Oct 8th)
  • prepare a 15 minute presentation for the intensive days
  • prepare to act as an opponent for one of your peer student orally and in writing (short list of observations, based on 6-pagers submitted before the seminar)
  • be active during the intensive days
